Social Computing … our story so far
Well it all started with a Moblog… then a blogger account… then a Flickr….
:problem: not enough control over the content that was going up online… and not alway able to access the net…
Then a wikispace (for new teachers)… and google calendar… then a Education wikispace(for inhouse stuff) and a podomatic page
:problem: then we would be in a pickle when our internet would go down (that isn’t so rare out here)…. we couldn’t access any information.
So what is the answer (or anwsers) for a remote aboriginal school with intermittent internet and a need for strong community control over what gets published online???
Well this is where we are at with it at the moment:
- Local linux network with a wp blog (with the podpress plugin) and 2 media wikis loaded for students and staff to create content locally.
- A host that has a WP blog (with the podpress plugin) and Media Wiki loaded to it…
- A system where community can view the content and decide what is to go on to the internet …
There is a lot of content being developed locally and will be on this space soon…
We still have a way to go to get this streamline and working in the school. There are still lots of things that we need to get working better… but the kids are really enjoying, the community is excited about it and literacy and IT skills are improving with every session.
Baby steps.. any ideas would be appreciated.
